in the mail

Once a valid test order
from your doctor is received,
you will receive a saliva
collection kit in the mail.

Collect your saliva
and mail it to the lab

Spit in the tube and send your
sample to the lab in the pre-paid
 envelope included with the kit.

Receive your results
with a genetic
counselor via telehealth.

Results are typically available within
3 weeks. A 15-20 minute phone or
video appointment with a genetic
counselor is required for
most participants.

You can be a carrier and not know it. A carrier is someone who has one altered copy of a gene associated with a disease that could be passed down to a child.

Whether you’re single, dating or married, carrier screening is for you. For most conditions, both you and your reproductive partner need to be carriers to put your baby at risk. Our pan-ethnic panel makes screening relevant for all couples, including those that are interfaith, inter-ethnic or LGBTQIA.

Whether it’s your first pregnancy or your third, each pregnancy is at an independent risk. Panels are updated every few years to give you the most current information.

Ms. Hardy is a genetic counselor for the JScreen program. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Michigan State University in 1998 and followed with a 9-year career as a high school biology, chemistry and forensics teacher. She received a master’s degree in biology from Georgia Southern University in 2009 and a master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2011. She was certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2012. Before joining the JScreen team, Ms. Hardy worked as a prenatal genetic counselor in a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialty clinic in Richmond, VA. Her professional interests include community outreach and education, mentorship of young professionals and enhancement of the health-care experience. In 2014, she was awarded the New Leader Award by the National Society of Genetic Counselors for involvement in a wide array of professional activities.

Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics at Sarah Lawrence College. She has been certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling since 2011. Before joining JScreen, she worked as a genetic counselor at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York, specializing in prenatal and cancer genetics. Her professional interests include education, teaching and mentoring genetic counseling students. She serves as an Instructor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and adjunct faculty at Sarah Lawrence College where she teaches embryology and reproductive genetics.
